THIS MONTH'S PROFILE:
An inspirational evening with Father Vazken Movsesian who will address his
experiences with genocide survivors in the African nation of Rwanda.
ABOUT:
Father Vazken Movsesian, a priest of the Armenian Orthodox Church, visited
Rwanda last year to meet with survivors of the African country's 1994
Genocide. For him, visiting Rwanda was akin to an opportunity to visit
Armenia circa 1925: the land from where his ancestors survived the Armenian
Genocide. What would it be like to meet with Genocide survivors a decade
after such horrendous and mass killings? With this presentation, Fr. Vazken
shares experiences from a unique perspective: what its like to have a foot
in the first and last Genocides of the 20th Century. He ties accounts of
atrocities and survival from Armenia to Rwanda and most poignantly points to
the current situation in the Darfur region of the Sudan.
Fr. Vazken is the Executive Director of the In His Shoes Ministries, a group
which was created in response to the acts of Genocide perpetrated against
the Armenian nation in 1915. Based on Christian principles of repaying evil
with good, "In His Shoes" walks with the oppressed and suffering throughout
the world. More information is available at InHisShoes.org.
